Thanks to the new capabilities offered by the world of home automation technology, intelligent energy management has reached a new level. Thanks to the partnership with Shelly, a well-established player in the home automation sector, Huawei has developed a new solution for energy saving.
The core of this solution is EMMA, a compact device that integrates metering, communication, and household load management functions.
EMMA for the management of photovoltaic systems
When connected to a PV system, EMMA acts as a meter and a SmartDongle combined together, and allows the monitoring of the system through the FusionSolar app.
Thanks to this connection, it is possible to optimize the use of excess energy produced by the PV system, even when the batteries are fully charged. The app, in fact, allows users to set the use of energy, assigning different priorities to loads.
EMMA for energy load management
As mentioned above, EMMA uses intelligent algorithms to manage energy loads or storage systems such as batteries, electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, or Shelly devices.
EMMA can gather data from the user or autonomously to make electricity consumption as cheap as possible. In addition to allowing users to set hourly electricity tariffs, EMMA can automatically retrieve weather data and learn consumption habits.
Heat pumps with EMMA
EMMA can autonomously control the activation of an SG-Ready heat pump and the wide range of smart plugs and accessories offered by the Shelly brand, based on the collected data.
Smart Charger with EMMA
EMMA also enhances the functionality of Huawei’s Smart Charger. With EMMA, it is possible to connect up to two Smart Chargers for each PV system, managing solar charging on both.
Additionally, it introduces a new feature: “Charge for the Next Trip”. Scheduling a departure time and date, the wallbox will charge the car with the amount of energy defined by the user and selecting the best times based on the availability of solar energy and electricity prices.
SmartGuard with EMMA
EMMA is also integrated into the new SmartGuard backup panel, for an elegant and integrated solution, capable of managing all system functions: backup, metering, communication, and load management, all handled by a single device.
To sum up, EMMA maximizes savings on energy bills and increases self-consumption from the PV system, reducing the amount of energy purchased from the grid. Furthermore, it minimizes the number of accessories required, making the installation process easier and faster.
Huawei EMMA-A02 Energy Management Assistance
EMMA (Energy Management Assistant) is a device that integrates the functions of a meter, communication, and management of household loads. This last function is undoubtedly the most interesting and distinctive feature of the device.

Complete Documentation
EMMA holds all SmartDongle functionalities for the commissioning and monitoring of a system, and takes the place of a meter too. This product can be connected to Shelly products for home automation, heat pumps, an external relay, and up to two SmartChargers.
Manageable devices
- Up to three inverters via RS485
- Two SmartChargers Huawei AC
- Two SG-Ready heat pumps
- Up to twenty Shelly devices
EMMA offers a wide range of functionalities to optimize energy management from a PV system, interacting with all electrical appliances and smart devices in your home.
- Electrical appliances: EMMA can be connected to several energy loads and, thanks to the Fusionsolar app, it is possible to schedule a timetable to maximize the use of green energy.
- TOU (time of use) mode or PV Preferred : EMMA can be set up in two different modes, “Time of Use” based on energy cost rates or “PV preferred” to favour the consumption of energy produced by the PV system.
- Power absorption monitoring: EMMA allows visualization of the power absorption of all appliances controlled via smart switches or plugs (Shelly devices). Data from connected devices is then available in the FusionSolar app.
Charging priorities
Through the Fusionsolar app, it is always possible to have an overview of all energy flows connected to EMMA. Thanks to the intelligence of this device, it is also possible to set different prioritites between all the energy loads connected, such as heat pumps and smart charging systems. In case of energy overloads, EMMA will automatically turn off less demanding devices to ensure a stable power supply.
