According to the recent EU-Market-Outlook-for-Solar-Power-2021-2025 by Solar Power Europe for the first time in 2021 Denmark also enters the club of European countries with annual installations above GW, more precisely 1.2 GW, with a very high growth rate, just think that in 2020 annual installations stopped at around 200 MW.
Small self-consumption residential systems
Small self-consumption residential plants have a very low share and since mid-2014 they are no longer incentivized and the market is governed only by the “green” thinking of the Danish people, about 10 MW / year of installations in this sector occur with a low growth rate.
C&I sector promise good growth
On the contrary, the C&I sector promises good growth even if in recent years the installations were not numerous and stopped at around 15 MW/year.
Utility-scale sector dominates the Danish market
It is the utility-scale sector that dominates the present market with approximately 175 MW in 2020 and in the medium term as it is expected, in this sector alone, installations for 1.5/2 GW every year for the next 5 years.
The utility-scale sector does not have big incentives, only reduced grid connection costs until 2022, but players can count on transparent and stable legislation that allows programming in the medium / long term.
Mixed wind-PV systems emerge among the growth drivers
The other growth drivers for this PV sector, as for many other European countries, and beyond, are the continuous increase in energy costs and the downward trend, which has been seen until last year, in the costs of components, but unlike other states also that of the maturity of the PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) market and the emerging market of high-power mixed wind-PV systems that can rely on a single point of connection to the grid (cable-pooling).
The growth of the C&I market estimated by Solar Power Europe will be due to the excellent CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate), the ability to amortize plants up to 1 MW at 116% and the possibility of establishing Energy Communities.
Lowering the costs of storage systems for the residential sector
As for the residential sector, on the other hand, one of the growth factors could be the lowering of the costs of residential storage systems in addition to the aforementioned attitude of the Danish people towards renewables.
However, the current forecasts could be disproved since from mid-2021 the costs of transport, of all raw materials, but also of photovoltaic modules are increasing.
Growth forecast for all sectors of the Danish PV market
In any case, the experts of Solar Power Europe, albeit with uncertainties, predict that all sectors of the Danish photovoltaic market, such as residential, commercial and industrial roofs and large ground-mounted systems, will increase their annual installations in the next 5 years.
